Black Cumin Seed Oil
Sourced from the seeds Nigella Sativa  plant, this oil is high in antioxidant vitamins A, B, and C. It is also a powerful anti-inflammatory due to high levels of a compound called thymoquinone, which make it great for acne-prone skin and other inflammatory skin conditions. Comedogenic rating: 2.

Blue Tansy Essential Oil

Rich in Azulene, highly coveted Blue Tansy Oil has powerful anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal actions, and is helpful to soothe skin.

Castor Oil

Considered a drying oil, castor oil contains anti-microbial ricinoleic acid. It also has detoxifying, drawing qualities and acts as a gentle dispersal agent, which make it useful in cleansing the skin. Comedogenic rating: 1

Cupuacu Butter

Sourced from a close relative of the cacao plant, cupuacu is sometimes known as “vegetable lanolin” for its high capacity for water absorption. It can help skin retain moisture, and contains essential fatty acids omega 3  and 6, vitamins C and A, and phytosterols with anti-inflammatory properties. Ritual uses cupuacu butter in small amounts to help thicken Sunlight Body Oil. Comedogenic rating: 4 ( Hence why we use it in small amounts. Completely fine for use on body, but not recommended for use on facial skin)

German Chamomile Essential Oil
German chamomile essential oil contains a compound called matricin, which has soothing, anti-inlfammatory properties, and can help reduce redness and sensitivity in skin.

Grape Seed Oil

Grapeseed oil contains high levels of vitamin E, beta-carotene, and linoleic acid. These nutrients give the oil antioxidant and antiproliferative properties, which help healthy cells regenerate and increases cell turnover. The high levels of vitamin E in grapeseed oil also help to even skin tone! This grapeseed oil is cold-pressed. Comedogenic rating: 1.

Helichrysum/Immortelle Essential Oil

A member of the sunflower family, Helichrysum's main actions are anti-inflammatory and regenerating, primarily a result of the 10% diketones. The essential oil is antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal. Helichrysum also helps soothe inflammation, accelerate new tissue growth, and diminish scar formation. 

Hemp Seed Oil

Contains omega-6 fatty acids like gamma-linoleic acid, a potent anti-inflammatory which helps encourage skin regeneration. Comedogenic rating: 0.

Jojoba Oil

Actually a liquid wax, jojoba’s composition is very similar to the sebum found naturally in our skin, allowing it to absorb easily. It contains vitamins B and E, as well as minerals like zinc, chromium, and copper, which help nourish and protect skin from environmental stressors. Comedogenic rating: 2.

Jasmine Absolute

Jasmine absolute, extracted from the flowers of the Jasmine vine, has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving qualities. It's aromatherapeutic properties tend to be uplifting, soothing, and sensual.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is well known for its soothing properties, both in aromatherapy and when used topically. It also has anti-inflammatory benefits and can help to soften and balance the skin. Whole, dried, lavender flowers are also infused into our Reincarnate Cleansing Oil.

Meadowfoam Oil

Meadowfoam is extremely high in vitamin E (which also help make it one of the most stable, long-lasting oils), and helps slow trans epidermal water loss from the skin by forming a protective barrier. It absorbs quickly, helping deliver nutrients deep into the epidermis. Comedogenic rating: 1.

Neroli Essential Oil

Neroli essential oil is steam-distilled from the flowers of the bitter orange plant. It helps stimulate skin cells to regenerate, and can therefore be helpful in decreasing the appearance of scarring and hyperpigmentation. It is also antiseptic and antibacterial. In aromatherapy, Neroli helps instill joy and lightness of being.

Passionfruit (Maracuja) Seed Oil

Also known as maracuja oil, this ingredient is extracted from the seeds of the passion fruit. Passionfruit seed oil is rich in essential fatty acids, especially linoleic acid, which help moisturize skin and decrease inflammation, and in vitamin C that can help brighten skin and support collagen production. Comedogenic rating: 1-2.

Palo Santo Essential Oil

Steam-distilled from the dried, dead wood of the Bursera graveolens tree, palo santo oil is antiseptic, and has settling, calming and grounding aromatherapeutic qualities.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

High in Zinc and Selenium, elements that help fight acne-causing bacteria and support skin’s collagen, as well as vitamin A and E, which help to repair and refresh skin and heal scarring. Comedogenic rating: 2.

Rice Bran Oil

Rice bran oil is light, easily absorbable oil rich in vitamin E and fatty acids. It contains antioxidants like beta-carotene and lycopene to help protect skin from environmental stressors, and CoQ10 to help brighten skin. Comedogenic rating: 2.

Rosemary C02

Rosemary Antioxidant (CO2 Extract), sometimes referred to as Rosemary Oil Extract, is derived from the leaves of the Rosmarinus officinalis plant through carbon dioxide extraction. The main constituent of Rosemary Antioxidant is Carnosic Acid, which demonstrates antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and tonic activities. It is also very effective at extending the shelf-life of oil-based products due to its powerful anti-oxidizing benefits.

Sandalwood Essential Oil

Sandalwood essential oil has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, mildly astringent qualities. In aromatherapy, it has benefits of increasing relaxation and mental clarity.

Sea Buckthorn C02

This superbly healing oil is extracted from the fruit of the sea buckthorn shrub using the C02 extraction method. These berries are said to be the single highest vegetal source of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, unsaturated fatty acids and essential amino acids, along with beta-carotene, which gives them their bright color. Superfood for your skin! Comedogenic rating: 1.

Sunflower Seed Oil

Sunflower seed oil contains high amounts of vitamins A, B, D, and E, and essential fatty acids. It helps to protect the skin from sun damage and other environmental stressors. Comedogenic rating: 1.

Squalane (Olive-derived)

Squalane is a saturated oil that is most often derived from olives, wheat germ, rice bran, or sugar cane.The human skin produces small amounts of its own version of squalane, however concentrations decrease as we age. Because its molecular structure is so close to the skin’s own, squalane oil penetrates deep into the pores and absorbs quickly. As well as helping fight free radicals and plumping skin, squalane is both anti-inflammatory and an excellent natural emollient and . Comedogenic rating: 0-1.

Tamanu Oil

This powerful regenerative oil contains canophyllol and canophyllic acid, which provide antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action, as well as xanthone compounds that provide an effective antioxidant effect (and are anti-inflammatory as well!). Tamanu has been found to minimize scarring and speed growth of healthy new cells. Comedogenic rating: 2. 

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant, which helps to fight free radicals and protect the skin from environmental stress. The vitamin E used in this product is GMO-free and is sourced from soybeans


Other Ingredients

Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is spiky, thick-leaved of succulent that's hydrating for the skin without being greasy, making it a great moisturizing agent for all skin types. It contains hormones Auxin and Gibberellins, which provide anti-inflammatory, wound-healing properties, and help support skin issues such as psoriasis, acne, and eczema. Aloe Vera leaves are also high in antioxidants like beta carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E which help to reduce signs of aging and help counteract damage caused by free radicals.

Aspen Bark Extract
Aspen Bark Extract is extracted from the bark of the American aspen (Populus tremuloides) tree, also known as the quaking or trembling aspen. Aspen contains salicin, a natural and gentler form of salicylic acid, which helps to gently exfoliate, soften, soothe, and condition the skin. This ingredient has a low irritation potential, so it’s unlikely to create a negative reaction in sensitive skin. Aspen Bark Extract also has preservative qualities, which makes it an effective natural replacement for chemical preservatives like parabens.

Beeswax (Cera Alba)

Beeswax is a natural wax secreted from the glands of honeybees. Beeswax is used by honeybees in their hives to help build the honeycomb and as a liner for the cells where baby bees are stored. Beeswax is natural and non-toxic, and when applied to the skin forms a breathable, protective barrier that helps hold in moisture without clogging pores (unlike other thickening agents like petroleum). Beeswax is also a humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to help keep your skin hydrated. It also contains vitamin A, which helps gently exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. The beeswax used in Ritual products is sourced from a local apiary, focused on reviving B.C.'s bee population, that maintains ethically managed hives. 

Benzoin Resin/Styrax Benzoin

Benzoin resin is derived from the evergreen Styrax benzoin tree. It provides antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and astringent properties, and helps speed wound healing and increase circulation. 

Burdock Root Extract

Rich in polysaccharides, burdock root extract has natural cleansing abilities to help gently purify skin. It’s also high in antifungal, antibacterial polyacetylenes, and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Camu Camu

Camu Camu berries are a superfood containing around 30 times the amount of skin-brightening vitamin C found in oranges. They’re also rich in ellagic acid, an antioxidant, which can help to protect the skin from free radicals.

Calendula

Calendula has been loved for centuries for its powerful healing and soothing properties. It also has antiseptic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, stimulant, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties.

Colloidal Oatmeal

Contains beta glucan and avenathramides, which act as deep-penetrating moisturizers and help soother inflammation. Colloidal oatmeal also contains saponins, which help to natural cleanse skin.

Glycerin (Vegetable)

Glycerin is a humectant that will attract moisture from the air and "pull" it onto your skin. It also has emollient properties to help soften and smooth the skin.This glycerin is vegetable derived from non-GMO mustard seed, corn, and or soybean, making it safe for the rainforest, and is highly refined making it allergen-free. 

Guava Extract

Guava is very high in vitamin A, B, and C, which help smooth and brighten skin while fighting free radicals.

Helichrysum/Immortelle Hydrosol

Also known as immortelle or everlasting, helichrysum packs a healing, anti-aging punch. It has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, and it’s hydrosol helps to tone and rejuvenate the skin.

Honeysuckle Extract

Honeysuckle extract contains chlorogenic acid, a natural flavonoid and powerful antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and detoxifying properties. It also contains naturally occurring saponins to help gently cleanse skin.

Kaolin Clay

Considered one of the gentlest clays,  Kaolin helps to absorb excess oils while cleansing and drawing impurities from the skin without stripping the skin. It's also great for sensitive skin.

Licorice Extract

Licorice extract is a powerhouse, containing a cocktail of beneficial compounds. Grabridin, often referred to as the natural alternative to hydroquinone, helps reduce hyperpigmentation by regulating the production of melanin and blocking the enzyme that causes damaged skin to darken. Glycyrrhizin helps to reduce and regulate inflammation, and licochalcone helps to regulate oiliness by balancing sebum production. Great for hypergimented, acne-prone, inflamed skin.

Lemon Balm

Also  known as Melissa, lemon balm is great for its astringent, antiviral, and skin-soothing properties. Every bottle of Reincarnate Cleansing Oil is slow-infused with whole lemon balm leaves!

Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is produced in New Zealand by bees that pollinate the native manuka bush (a relative of the tea tree plant). It has naturally antibacterial properties due to high levels of methylglyoxal (MG), which is found in most types of honey in small quantities. Manuka honey contains up to 100 times more MG than regular honey. Like regular honey, it also contains hydrogen peroxide, which helps oxygenate skin.

Olive Leaf Extract

Packed full of antioxidants and phytonutrients, olive leaf extract also contains an active component called oleuropein, which has been shown to speed wound healing, regulate melanin production, protect skin from sun damage, and reduce inflammation in the skin in multiple studies.

Plantain

Plantain is a potent herb with soothing anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits. It is rich in tannin, which helps draw tissues together to help stop bleeding, and allantoin, which promotes healing of injured cells.

Pineapple Extract

Pineapple extract contains high levels of the enzyme bromelain to help fight inflammation and soften skin by gently exfoliating.

Papaya Extract

Papaya extract contains fruit enzyme papain, as well as vitamin A to help gently exfoliate and increase skin cell turnover. It also contains vitamin C which has beneficial antioxidant and collagen-building qualities.

Honey is a natural humectant, that draws moisture from the air into the skin to help increase hydration. Raw honey is chock-full of enzymes and antioxidants, which help brighten, nourish, and smooth skin. It is naturally antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, making it great for use on acne-prone skin. Rice Powder

Rice powder contains anti-inflammatory allantoin, and antioxidant ferulic acid to help soothe and brighten skin. It is also is very close to ceramide in its chemical structure. Ceramide helps to increase collage production, which leads skin to be more elastic and supple. Rice powder is a wonderful gentle exfoliant to help gently resurface and buff skin.

Rose Powder

Rose petals have naturally astringent properties to help tone skin. Rose is also anti-inflammatory and hydrating for the skin, and contains antioxidants which help fight free radicals.

Spearmint

Whole, dried spearmint leaves are infused in the Reincarnate Cleansing Oil. Spearmint has cooling, skin-soothing properties, and helps decrease redness and swelling from inflammation. It also has antibacterial properties to help fight acne. 

Witch Hazel Hydrosol

Witch hazel is naturally astringent due to the presence of tannins and polyphenols, helping to tone skin. It also has antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

Yarrow

Yarrow is a powerful astringent containing high levels of tannins, vitamins A, C, and K, falvonoids, and minerals. It has antibacterial, anti-septic, anti-inflammatory properties and helps to regenerate damaged skin while protecting from secondary infections. It also has emollient properties to help smooth and soften skin.
